FOD B-24H-15-FO 42-52530 ÒBUGS BUNNYÓ 791st Squadron Immediately after ÒBombs AwayÓ was struck by flak in the bomb bay, nose & right wing. The plane behind witnessed a huge red fireball. The plane broke in two, with the nose section pitching up and then going into a spin. Both pilot and co-pilot were blown clear of the plane when the cockpit disintegrated (the pilot was able to hold on to his rig in spite of not being fastened in it) and were made Prisoner of War (POW). The rest of the crew perished with the aircraft. War Dept. gave Finding of Death Classification
