Inducted in May 1943 he and his crew did not join the Group until January 1945 when they sailed across on the 'Queen Elizabeth'. He was to fly on 26 combat missions -3 of them to Berlin- at one time flying 5 missions in 6 days. He also did trips bringing back Frenchmen from Malthausen concentration camp. Post war he returned to college eventually becoming part owner of a major nursery and seed distributor in Shenandoah and was afterwards chairman of the Shenandoah Historical Preservation Commission.
