Julius Markus was a Left Waist Gunner in the 384th Bomb Group/546th Bomb Squadron. Shot down on the 14 October 1943 mission to Schweinfurt in B-17 #42-29800 'Me and My Gal'. Captured, made a Prisoner of War (POW). Interned at Stalag XVIIB (17B) near Krems, Austria. Repatriated through Sweden on 5 January 1945 for health reasons. Died in August 1945 at the St Albans Medical Facility, St.Albans, Queens, New York, United States.
