John J Beckman
Military"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
He was drafted in September 1943, and after attending Serial Gunnery School was assigned to an air crew at Lincoln Nebraska. In November 1944 they shipped out aboard the 'USS Wakefield' a troop transport for England and the 490thBG at Eye. He flew on 28 combat missions - his first was to Berlin.
He afterwards worked for Iowa Highway Patrol, retiring in 1980.
Awards Air Medal with Oak Leaf clusters.
