John Charles Sizer

Object Number - UPL 52331 - John Charles Sizer
John Sizer flew 30 missions as pilot of his Flying Fortress. He was a patriot of the truest kind, and joined up simply to serve his country in a time of great need. His wife, Ruth (Jacobs) Sizer, traveled with him all during his training and waited longingly for his letters from England. After the war he became an air traffic controller and served the FAA for over 25 years, retiring in 1972. He loved baseball, golf, and bowling (and even bowled a 300 game!).
John had two children, Mike Sizer (Fort Worth, TX) and Sandra Sizer Frankiel, aka Tamar Frankiel (Los Angeles); and 7 grandchildren. He adored children and would have loved to be surrounded by his grandkids all the time - but they didn't always live close by. He lived in Cincinnati (where he was born in October 1918) and Dayton, OH; in Homestead, FL (until the 1992 hurricane); and in the Los Angeles area, including the last 5 years with his daughter. He cared sincerely about his family; and especially loved and cared for Ruth until she passed away in 1997.
John passed away on August 11, 2010. We remember him for his love of life, his sense of humor, and his commitment to what is good and right. He said so many times, even during his final illness, "I'm the luckiest man in the world."
