Duncan wrote: 'I served 30 missions with the 8th Air Force, Nov. 26, 1943 to May 28, 1944. When shot down on mission to Dessau, I broke my leg badly in the parachute landing, then was nearly killed by German civilians as I lay on the ground. This was followed by seven months in makeshift Prisoner of War (POW) medical facilities, followed by four more months in several stalags. '
