Flew first mission 11/26/43 to Bremen, flew 12/31/43 mission to Cognac, France--lost group commanding officer, Col. Hatcher and Sqd. CO, Maj. Blaylock. Flew 1/11/44 mission to Oschersleben, Germany, where 8th AF lost 60 aircraft. Included missions to Schweinfurt and Berlin. Was shot down on 30th mission to Dessau, Germany 28 May 1944 in B-17 #42-31721 'Black Magic'. Suffered compound fracture of leg and was Prisoner of War (POW) for 11 months.



Duncan wrote: 'I served 30 missions with the 8th Air Force, Nov. 26, 1943 to May 28, 1944. When shot down on mission to Dessau, I broke my leg badly in the parachute landing, then was nearly killed by German civilians as I lay on the ground. This was followed by seven months in makeshift Prisoner of War (POW) medical facilities, followed by four more months in several stalags. '
