Placerville, California 13 May 2012 John Allen Hutto March 18, 1918 - May 13, 2012 John Allen Hutto was born in Gotebo, Okla., on March 18, 1918, to George and Rachel Hutto. He passed away at home surrounded by loving family on May 13, 2012, at the age of 94. Lois Ashley Hutto, his wife of 70 years, preceded John in death. Lois Ashley was born in Butler, Okla., on March 21, 1920, to Sam and Lenora Belle Ashley. Lois, the last to survive her eight siblings, passed away at home on Sept. 23, 2011, at the age of 91. John and Lois met in 1939 while attending college at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla. Upon graduation, John was awarded a Bachelors Degree in piano performance and earned a teaching certificate. He began teaching school, and he and Lois were married in 1941. Soon World War II interrupted life, which prompted John to enlist in the Army Air Corps to pursue his love of flying. He flew 68 missions in Italy as a B-25 pilot. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his valor. After the war, John and Lois settled in the San Francisco Bay Area where John became a music teacher in Oakland. Later he received a Masters Degree in Music Education from Mills College and earned an administrative credential. He was an educator in Oakland schools for 32 years. Together he and Lois raised their four children in the East Bay Area. The Huttos were known for their involvement in church music. John served as a choir director, pianist and organist in several churches. Lois was known for her beautiful soprano voice, wonderful wit and humor.
