Jerome J. Hentz was the older brother of Ursula Hentz-Varner and the younger half-brother of James E. Schroder. His funeral was held on 15 September 1945 at Saint Williams Cathedral in Baltimore, Maryland.

Germany 24 May 1944 Jerome J. Hentz was killed while acting as the rear ball turret gunner for the B-17 Fortress “Tornado.” None of his fellow crewmen witnessed him bailing out of the plane, and it is believed that he died in the initial attack. If true, he likely died shortly after 11:25 AM, having completed his assigned bombing mission.

Neuville 27 May 1945 Jerome J. Hentz is buried in Neuville-en-Condroz cemetery, Belgium, France. His cross is in Block D, Row 5, Grave 56.
