James worked for Standard Oil before becoming an Aviation Cadet. He was commissioned in December 1943 and crossed the Atlantic on the 'SS Brazil' in May 1944. He flew on 36 combat missions with the Group being wounded in the leg 8 Sept 1944 on the Ludwigshafen raid. He was to spend some weeks in hospital in Cambridge. After the war he was a banker, retiring in 1987 after serving as Senior Vice President and Trust Officer.
