James E Mortenbeck

Military

As 5-6 year old I remember James (Bud) Mortenbeck my uncle telling my Dad, Buds older brother some of his memories of the 2nd WW as an air plane repairmen.

(1) Some times a friendly airplane would crash on take off and sometimes there armaments would explode leaving wreckage, body parts and a crater.

As quick as they could personal (Bud) included would rush out to the area, pick up as much body parts as they could find, clear the wreckage and fill the crater.

Later in the war Bud and others made it into an allied occupied Luger factory, Guys in his outfit were grabbing as many Lugers as they could carry, Bud only took one.

On the boat back home (USA) Bud lost most of his mustering out pay to card playing (gambling)
