The missing aircraft was piloted by 2nd Lt. James C. Voelkers, 486th squadron. [Also lost without trace were: Lt. Samuel S. Bibich, Lt. Lawrence J. Schneider, Sgt. Albert M. McKinnon, Sgt. Salvatore P. Gelfo, Sgt. Alfred W. Lundquist] The mission later turned back because of bad weather. |
