Hugh Allen Jones
Military ROLL OF HONOURKilled in training on 10 May 1944, while flying P-38 Lightning 42-67207. Jones was on a training exercise from his base at Goxhill when he became separated from the other aircraft in his section and was in the process of joining another section when the crash happened.
Jones was killed in the crash, though the reasons for it are disputed. It is possible the aircraft experienced a mechanical failure, the engine caught fire, or Jones rolled the aircraft became disoriented and ploughed into the ground while believing he was climbing.
He is commemorated on a memorial near Tintwistle Knarr.
