Howard H Staigl

Originally from White Oak, Hamilton County, Ohio. Enlisted on February 23, 1942 at Fort Thomas, Kentucky. Married Betty (Coppen) Staigl, a British Subject, in Teddington, England in 1943. His unit, the 901st Engineer Headquarter's Company, was attached to the U.S. 8th Air Force. The 901st Engineers were part of the "Wide Wing" and supported SHAEF Headquarters at Bushy Park, Kingston Upon Thames, UK and later in France. After the war, Howard, Betty, and their daughter returned to Cincinnati, Ohio. In the mid 1950s, they moved to Butler County, Ohio, first living in Fairfield and later living in the Lindenwald Neighborhood of Hamilton. After working several different jobs, including stints with the Merchant Marine and with Bendix Aviation Corporation, Howard worked as a self employed house painter for many years before retiring. He died on October 2, 2005 in Hamilton and is interred at St. Mary Cemetery along with Betty who died in 2017. He was extremely proud of his service in WWII.
