Howard LeCompte was flying as Navigator on board B-17 'Combined Operations' 42-37840 on 14 April 1945. He had flown on 27 missions before and had been grounded. The flight served as a navigation exercise and discharge of passengers on a Rest & Recreation trip to Langford Lodge, Nutt's Corner in Northern Ireland. In bad weather and low clouds, the Fortress failed to clear rising ground and crashed on a hill on the Isle of Man. Killed in Service (KIS).
