Henry was a World War II and Korean Conflict veteran. He joined the Army Air Force in 1941. Graduating from the Army Air Force Advanced Flying School at Kirtland Field in Albuquerque, N.M., on March 27, 1943, he was commissioned a second lieutenant. He also was employed as a draftsman at Morrison Brothers before becoming a navigator at the Hondo, Texas, Navigation School, where he graduated as a first lieutenant.
