B-17G #42-38109 'Cabin in the Sky' crash landed at RAF Redhill, Surrey on return from a mission to Leipzig on 20 Feb 1944. RTD. He was awarded the Silver Star for bravery when he helped Medal of Honor Winner Wm. Lawley get their plane back to base because so many crew members were wounded they couldn't bail out. Mason even took control of the plane when Lawley passed out from loss of blood but woke him up because Mason knew he couldn't land the plane.
