Tyrrhenian Sea | 12 July 1944 | TSGT Winjum had bailed out of his battle damaged a/c at about 4000 feet prior to the pilot ditching in the sea. The pilot had not issued bail out orders and was not aware of Winjum and tail gunner MacRitchie were missing until counting heads in the dinghy after the crew escaped the sinking B-25. Winjum's body was never found. |
