MilitaryPrisoner of War (POW) Hit by flak and had mid air collision with his own crew that he did not fly with that day, because he had volunteered to fill in with another crew, as his own plane(Jeanne) was not scheduled to fly that day, but it ended up doing that anyway and crashed near Chartres on 8/1/44 , Mapes was on B-17 Stormy Weather #4239873
