"Iowans of the Mighty Eighth", Chapter 22 "Biographies", by Charles D Taylor.
He was drafted in November 1943, deployed to England in March 1944 and joined the 92nd BG at Podington. He flew on six combat missions including one on Dresden when he got hit by a piece of flak - fortunately protected by his flak vest - 'it felt like someone hit me with a hammer'. He returned to the States on the 'Queen Mary' for re-assignment to the Pacific but was instead discharged In April 1946.
Post war he went back to farming and operated a trucking firm.
