Flew with Canadian Royal Air Force, then joined American Army Air Force in 1944 was in 353rd FG/350th FS/then transferred to Pacific theater after completing duty in Europe. Went into the Army Helicopter Service and served 2 tours in the Vietnam War. Taught flying at Ft. Rucker AL. Flew 90 missions in the ETO, 9 missions in the Pacific. He was the first American ace who had 5 airplanes shot out from under him before he got 5 enemy aircraft.
