George B Whitlock
Military ROLL OF HONOURLieutenant Colonel George B Whitlock was killed in action on 2 November 1944, whilst flying over Mersberg. His aircraft was hit by flak and exploded in mid-air, Whitlock, from the co-pilot's seat instructed members of the crew to bail out, whilst he held the aircraft level. He died when the aircraft crashed.
Whitlock is buried in Ardennes American Cemetery, his wife Byra Louise remarried John Hadley Hemmingway, the son of Ernest Hemmingway in 1949.
