Frederick B Roberts Jr
MilitaryFrederick Roberts served as a Radio Operator with the 390th Bomb Group. He flew his first mission on 20 July 1944 in B-17 42-3472.
When his B-17 #42-97160, known as 'Southern Comfort', was shot down by flak and crashed at Roeselaere on 2 August 1944, he managed to evade capture.
Escape Report : E&E1954 - Was helped in France By Mr Andre Becquet at Quesnoy sur Deûle (near Lille) from 4 Aug to 6 Sept and the doctor Leon Bartier cared his feet, which were in a bad way after he had marched for several days non-stop.
