Frederick B Comer Jr
Military ROLL OF HONOURFrederick Comer attended elementary school in Concordia, Kansas. The family moved to Ogden, Utah in 1935 and Fred graduated from Ogden High School in 1939. He was employed at the Hill Field Army Air Base in Ogden, advancing to become an airplane mechanic. Married to Lorraine Siddoway on 3 October 1941, he enlisted in April 1942 and was subsequently stationed at Sheppard Field, Wichita Falls,Texas; Santa Monica, Calif.; Will Rogers Field, Oklahoma City; Columbia Army Air Base, South Carolina and various camps in Washington and Oregon. He came home on furlough in March and again in August 1942. After additional training, he was sent overseas. Assigned to the 96th Bomb Group/339th Bomb Squadron, he was Tail Gunner on B-17 42-3553 on 8 November 1943 and was killed in the crash after take off of the Fortress near East Harling, Norfolk. The cause of the plane's loss was never ascertained.
