Stafford Springs, Stafford, CT, USA 10 July 2008 Lieutenant Colonel Frank J. Dever, Jr. (USAF, Ret.), 86, a resident of Somers for the past 38 years, died Thursday (July 10, 2008), at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Stafford Springs. He resided at 13 Colonial Drive in Somers, Connecticut at the time of his death. He was born in Attleboro, MA, a son of the late Frank J. Dever, Sr. and Sarah (Johnston) Dever, and was educated from the Springfield, MA, school system and a graduate of Commerce High School. He earned his under graduate degree from University of Massachusetts in Amherst and his Master's degree in Industrial Administration from the U.S.A.F. Institute of Technology in 1954. Lt. Colonel Dever retired after a 26 year career, 21 of those years active duty with the United States Air Force. He was an aviator and veteran of three wars, World War II, Korean War and the Vietnam War and was the recipient of several awards and citations during his distinguished career, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, USAF Commendation Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Medal, American Theatre Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Lt. Colonel Dever lived all over the USA, England, Germany, France, and Thailand and was instrumental in the building of the US Air Base on top of Greenland. He also served as the project officer for purchasing over 11,000 Pratt & Whitney jet engines. Most recently he was employed as the Director of Administration with Combustion Engineering, Inc., of Windsor from which he retired in 1985 after more than 16 years.
