KIS on 21 June 1944 when his B-24 crashedon take off from Attlebridge
21 June 1944, mission #64, Berlin, Germany took off 32 strong at 0430 hrs on runway 09. The ceiling was dirty and low. Several planes had already taken off. Saw red flares pop in a few seconds. Later a plane wheels down. Evidently someone in trouble 200 feet high. It seemed to be losing altitude just after clearing the edge of the field. The aircraft crashed in a field with a full load of incendiary bombs and fuel. The two waist gunners managed to survive the crash. The rest of the crew perished.
