Eugene Brian Valdemi

Military

He registered for the WW II draft on 30 June 1942. He was listed as employed by Bill Mendem Associated Service, Alameda, California . He was 6' tall; weighed 190 pounds; had brown hair, brown eyes and a 'ruddy' complexion. It was also noted that he had a birthmark on his right arm.

He entered the service on 12 December 1942 from San Francisco, California. He enlisted as a private; he had one year of college education, was single, without dependents and his civilian occupation was listed as: "Undefined code".

Gene was mentioned as a member of the 1945 84th TCS in Frank Guild's book "A Journey to the Far Shore'.

We have him listed on orders as participating on two 437th flights: the Dragoon Movement in July of 1944 and Operation VARSITY in March of 1945; although we do not have a copy of the orders, he appears to have participated in Operation Market-Garden as well.

He is also listed on GO #8, dated 23 April 1945 awarding him and other members of the 437th their second Oak Leaf Cluster for the previously awarded Air Medal. This was for "…meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flights within the period 01 October 1944 through 31 December 1944."
