1st Lt Edward Myers was flying Mustang 43-6953 on a patrol mission to Saint-Lô on 11 July 1944. Hit by Flak, he was seen to crash-land his P-51 near Caumont-l’Eventé, 25km SW of Bayeux, Calvados, France. Missing Air Crew Report - MACR 7044. As he was close to Allied lines, he was believed to have evaded. There is no Escape & Evasion Report to his name. According to Kent D. Miller’s book “The 363rd Fighter Group in World War II: in Action over Germany with the P-51 Mustang” (Schiffer Books, 2002), he reached the Allied lines and rejoined his Unit in France on 31 August 1944. At https://obscureco.wordpress.com/tag/379th-fighter-squadron/page/4/, his name is mentioned as having participated on 26 December 1944, during the Battle of the Bulge, on a strafing mission in support of ground troops in the Bastogne area. His P-47 (Serial unknown - No MACR) was hit by Flak. Myers bailed out NW of Luxembourg city and broke his ankle upon landing. An US Infantry unit recuperated him and sent him to hospital. He later flew in the 362nd FG/ 378th FS and was credited with 1 enemy aircraft shot down on 4 April 1945 (see French website http://www.cieldegloire.com/fg_362.php) - No other personal information could be found about him.
