Edward B Dixon

Military

Lt. Col Edward Bowes Dixon enlisted in the Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a member of the 353rd Fighter Squadron and, after crash landing his P-47 Thunderbolt, became a POW in Germany and was set free by the Allied advance.

Lt Col. Dixon flew the F-80 and F-84 Thunderstreak as a Reconnaissance pilot with the Tactical Air Command (TAC) in Europe. He would later serve as a member of the Strategic Air Command (SAC), where, in 1957 he would be one of the elite few chosen to fly the Top Secret U-2 Spy plane.

He logged over 12,000 hours as an Air Force Pilot, including Cold War high altitude atomic bomb fallout sampling, and strategic photo reconnaissance missions. He is a true American hero who is missed dearly by his family who is forever indebted to his strength, sacrifice and love.
