After his last mission, pilot Lieutenant Robert C. Cherry stands beside Crew Chief Staff Sergeant Edmund R. Namowicz. They are standing in front of their P-47 Thunderbolt, known as "The Eradicator", at Boxted air base. Both men are part of the 62nd Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group. 3 August 1944. Cherry's highest rank was Colonel. He is deceased. In addition to the P-47 he flew in WWII, he also flew the F-100.
