Shot down by fighters and crashed at Wuelfingerode in B-17 #4231903. Jones rode the aircraft down. He did not want to bail out. Survived the crash and was taken to the regional hospital where he died at 0430 on 30 July 1944 from his wounds. He was buried in the Municipal Cemetery in Bleicherode in Grave #23.
