He got his pilot's wings in the WWI. He worked on the staff of Ira Eaker. When his son got shot down, he volunterred and flew five missions. He was on the Russia Shuttle run with a 3rd Division group, where the Germans followed the 8th to Poltava and destroyed most of the planes. He came back via Moscow and Egypt. At Widewing, he was a statistical control officer, supplying a flow of information on aircraft availability and possibilities to the commanders. He received a promotion to Colonel and Gen. Jimmy Doolittle pinned a Legion of Merit on him. He died in 1962.
