He flew two tours; completing 46 missions. Finished his first tour from 16 Dec 1943 to 20 June 1944 [31 missions, credited w/36], went on 30 day left and returned back to Thurleigh in October 1944 [10 missions]. He arrived with the group in September 1943. He was squadron Bombardier from May 1944 to July 18, 1944. He was group Bombardier in 1944-45. The name of the B-17, which he flew on was 'Nicotine Nelly'. He flew on Albert F. Rehn crew.

Ross was appointed a Federal Circuit Judge in January 1971 and was still serving in 1996. He has twice been chairman of the 306BGA.
