Donald L Hoose

Military

Stationed at Deopham Green, England: 01/10/1944 to 010/04/1944. Flew with Pilot Paul Skinner on a B-17 named: Karen B III. Flew Shuttle Misson - Operation Frantic II on: 06/21/1944 landing at Poltava, Russia for re-fueling after completing a raid on the oil refineries of Ruhland, Germany. A short time later nearly all of the 452nd Bomb Group's aircraft were destroyed in a night raid by Luffwaffe bombers as they sat on the runway, the Karen B III was one of those aircraft. Daddy never talked about his service days until his 4 daughters were all adults with families of their own, he began to open up more as he grew older and provided me with so much wonderful oral history.
He kept his flight jacket for many years and also his medals which my sister has carefully framed and displayed. Our beloved Daddy passed away on 06/13/2010 and was buried in San Antonio, TX with military honors. I believe he was very proud of having served his country in the USAAC and we are proud of him.
