April 1943 flew on ac 26B-4-MA 41-18047 'Cheechaka!' out of Belem, Brazil when engine vibrated 20 minutes after takeoff and vibrated the whole plane. Attempts to maintain altitude failed as left engine failed and caught fire. Pilot Reese ordered crew to bail out. The 3 crewmen survived. October 1943 the 322nd was to move to the 9th AF.
