Shot down 13 December 1943 in B-17 #42-39768. Killed in Action (KIA) as a member of the Brinkley crew. They served as crewmembers earlier on takeoff from base on mission to Bremen 13-Nov-1943. The mission was recalled due to weather. B-17#42-31038 was hit with severe turbulence going into a spin and losing several thousand feet in altitude. Lt. Cosper recovered control and ordered the crew to bale out. Cosper landed but the B-17 immediately caught fire, exploded and killed him. For his actions, Cosper was awarded the Silver Star. Losses reports 6 members of the crew had only arrived 31 October 1943.
