Prisoner of War (POW). Lt. Forbes was a co-pilot, flying mercy missions out of England. He was sent on a mercy mission with Lt. Parker's crew to pick up wounded from France, upon their return they were sent out again to a location in Belgium to again pick up wounded, the plane was shot at by small arms fire as well as flak, it was forced to crash land a few miles from Aachen, Germany and 1 member of the crew was killed. The others became Prisoner of War (POW)s for 7 months. The date was 27 Sept 1944. This transport group assisted the 8th & 9th AAFs in Europe. They were part of the 302nd Air Transport Wing. It originated in the 8th AAF Service Command but later formed its own separate place with the 31st TC(part of the 9thAAF and became USSTAF to service all Army Air Forces in ETO).
