Daniel Hunt visit with Capt Oscar D O'Neil prior to his departure for a mission to Antwerp. Spellman, as head of the New York Archdiocese, was also vicar for the U.S. military forces worldwide - a "double duty" which had been in effect for that office since 1917. A separate position, titled Archdiocese for the Military, was not established until 1985.
