Object Number - UPL 6665 - A bomber crew of the 306th Bomb Group with their B-17 Flying Fortress. Captain Craig Jack Harwood is in the front row on the left.
Shot down on 16th mission on 17 April 1943 in B-17 #4229625, Aged 24. Killed in Action (KIA). Last plane in lead squadron on mission to Bremen, it suffered heavy fighter attack over the target causing damage to both wings and to 2 engines. The entire crew bailed out, but Harwood was one of 3 crew members to die.
Posthumously awarded the Purple Heart.
