From 21 March to 18 June 1942 he was assigned to the 303rd at Gowen Field. He completed 22 missions with the 306th. He was Squadron Bombardier then Group Bombardier. Then from 24 July 1943 was transferred to HQ VIII Bomber Command and 8th AF until 17 January 1945.
