Object Number - UPL 31646 - 1st Lt Charles S Coe 503FS, 339FG, 8AF.

Lt Charles S Coe of Westbrook, ME, was nicknamed “No Mags” Coe. He was the pilot of 44-13377 D7-G ‘Night Mare’ and got his nickname due to often claiming a ‘rough’ engine. The crew chief suspected that it was due to Coe deliberately switching off one of the magnetos in flight. The crew chief got fed up with the black mark against him, so he re-wired the magnetos so that they stayed ‘live’ when the pilot switched either one off once the engine was running.

Assigned to 503FS, 339FG. Transferred to 496FTG. Credited 2.5 kills.
