Killed in Action (KIA) Shot down by flak and crashed near Falaise on 8/8/44 in B-17 #4297394 Pilot Blackwell says he was killed when tail blew off.
8 Aug 1944Tail shot off plane by flak. Landed within friendly lines and entire crew; with the exception of Sergeant Charles Simons, Tail Gunnor who was blown out of the tail and was reported Missing in Action (MIA); landed safely and have returned to base.
