With two engines out due to flak and mechanical problems on a mission to Achmer airfield, GR on 21 Feb 1944, B-17F #42-30866 'Pistol Packin' Mama' was attacked by fighters after falling out of formation and was forced to ditch in the North Sea. Killed in Action (KIA).
