MilitaryOn 9th mission, lost three engines by flak in IP area and ditched in channel on 7/20/44 in B-17 #42-102683. Crew members not injured and were rescued by British 26 hours later. On 22 August 1944 while flying as formation observer on Group Lead ship, he was forced to bail out after take-off when smoke bomb ignited in bomb bay. Completed 35 missions, flew 22 of them as copilot and 13 as pilot. Flew from 29 June 1944 to 29 January 1945.
