Alfred registered for the draft on 16 October 1940; he was listed as 5' 9" tall, weighed 165 pounds, had blue eyes, brown hair and a sallow complexion. He entered the service on 31 December 1942 and was released from active duty on 10 September 1945.

We have Private Bischoff listed on the 437th TCG Special Orders #195, dated 27 December 1943. These were the orders generated at Pope Field (Fort Bragg, NC) for the first phase of movement by air and by rail of the 437th personnel to their eventual overseas deployment.

The service number appearing on the orders we have is not listed in the NARA data base, and a search by name also produced no results.

He was a member of the 437th TCG Association, was listed on their rosters from 1972 until 1978 and attended several reunions.
