On May 29, 1944, the B-17 42-97808 of the 429BS was shot down on its return from Leipzig. Pilot Lt Lowell Stanley. The plane crashed in Belgium, in the municipality of Grand-Leez, near the city of Gembloux. The pilot and crew survived but were captured and held prisoner in Germany.
