Chester Mersman (far right) with some of his mechanic buddies at Honington on a very cold day. They had to go outside to take the picture because the camera needed more light. Ringer (second from the left), Geisy (third from the left) On 13 September 2015 Chester, aged 97, and a volunteer at IWM Duxford said the following: “Ringer and Geisy didn't want to come out for staff Sargent Smakula to take their picture. It took some persuasion. Our leather flight suits were issued to keep ground crews warm. Flight crews were issued new light weight cloth suits. The bills of our caps got in the way when getting our face close to an inspection hole to see inside. That's why we folded them back.”
