Associated Press Photo Shows:- Six of the crew of the Fortress "Barrel House Bessie From Basin Street" who recently ditched their flaming plane in the sea miles off shore while returning from a raid. The crew spent thirty minutes in the water before being picked up. One member, Sgt. Ralph Erwin, The Dalles, Ore., died, and three, Sgt. Chester W. Hack, Detroit, Mich., 2/Lt. Robert J. Curtis, Dunkirk, N.Y.,; and Sgt. Frederick T. Huther, Utica, N.Y., were injured and not shown in the picture[obscured by censor]. Above, left to right: Sgt. Alex R. Delgado, Los Bangs, Calif.; Sgt. The "Passed as censor" date of 12 June 1943 is 10 days prior to the 384th Bomb Group's first operational mission. None of the names are in the 384th Bomb Group personnel data base.
