B-24 Liberator nicknamed "Hollywood and Vine" of the 453rd Bomb Group in flight. Arrived in the UK 28 May 1944. Originally assigned to 491 BG. Transferred to 734 BS of 453 BG date unknown. My Dad, Zwinglio Frausto, told us that on January 13, 1945, returning from a mission, enemy flak knocked out one of the engines and rendered landing gear inoperable. He said that pilots Charles W. Cleary and John C McArdle were able to guide the aircraft to liberated Belgium and crash landed; all the crew got out without a scratch. Aircraft was salvaged on the Continent in January 1945.
