"From the large German airdrome at Bordeaux in southern France Nazi bombers took off to harass our shipping. This base loomed as a serious threat to our invading troops and supplies. A large formation of Consolidated B-24 "Liberators" and Boeing B-17 "Flying Fortresses" attacked 19 June 44. Previously it had been hit a number of times before D-Day and also on 15 June 44. Showing effects of earlier attacks, this base is seen moments before the attack began."
