The fire-extinguisher coated remains of a 62nd Fighter Squadron, 56th Fighter Group P-47D Thunderbolt (serial number 42-7866) that crashed on the 5th of September 1944 due to a sudden fault with the propeller controls. The tail of the aircraft protruding from the trees around the wreck. Official caption on image: "GAD-48-4-F365 (Sept 5 '43) Crash Damage - P-47D - 42-7866."
